Is spray foam insulation right for your Yakima house?
Spray foam insulation is foam our crew sprays into the attic, crawl space or open walls of your Yakima home, where it insulates and seals the gaps air leaks through in the same job, while your household stays somewhere else.
Most people who ask me about foam have a bedroom that won't stay warm, an upstairs that bakes in July or a power bill that keeps climbing, and they've heard foam fixes all of it. Sometimes it's the right call and sometimes a cheaper fix does the job, which is why I look before I price anything. The cost moves with how much area gets foam, how hard it is to reach and what has to be fixed first, like a roof leak, a damp spot or old wiring, and the schedule moves with the weather and with your household needing to be out for the spray and the wait after. The estimate I write once I've seen the space gives you the price for your house.
How do you know your house could use spray foam?
Hot upstairs, cool downstairs
If the upstairs bedrooms bake in summer while the main floor stays comfortable, heat is usually coming through the attic and air is moving up through gaps in the ceiling. Waiting means another season of running the AC harder for rooms that still won't cool off.
Cold floors over the crawl space
Floors that feel cold under bare feet usually mean outside air is getting under the house around the edge, where the framing sits on the foundation. It won't fix itself, and every winter it costs you heat you've already paid for.
Drafts you can feel
A draft at an outlet, around the attic hatch or where a pipe comes through the wall means air is leaking, and more insulation on its own won't stop it. Left alone, the insulation you already have keeps fighting that draft, and the power bill shows it.
How we install spray foam insulation
We start by fixing what has to come first, because foam sprayed over a roof leak, a damp spot or old wiring locks the problem in where nobody can see it. Spray foam also means your household is out of the house while we spray and for a while after, so before you book anywhere to stay, we go over the product we plan to use and the stay-out time its maker gives. On spray day our crew covers what isn't getting foam, sprays the areas we agreed on and cleans up, and I'm there checking the work as it goes.
Foam isn't always the right buy. It costs more than other insulation and earns that by sealing air while it insulates, so when the ductwork lives in the attic I usually lean toward foam. When it doesn't, sealing the gaps around can lights, pipes and the hatch and then topping up with blown-in insulation, which is loose fill blown through a hose, usually gets you more comfort for the money, and our attic insulation work covers that whole job.
Attics with the ductwork up there
Foam on the underside of the roof brings the ducts inside the sealed space, so your furnace isn't pushing warm air through an attic that's freezing in January. This is the job where foam usually earns its higher price.
Crawl spaces and rim joists
The rim joist, the board that runs along the top of the foundation wall, is full of odd gaps that let cold air under your floors, and foam fills those shapes better than batts do. It suits houses with cold floors over a crawl space.

What happens after you call about spray foam in Yakima?
Here's how a spray foam job runs from your side, from the first call to the day you walk through the finished work with me.
Call or send the form
You call or send the form, and we get back to you to set a time. Tell us which areas you want insulated and whether the house is inside Yakima city limits, since that tells us which office handles a permit if one's needed.
I come out and look
I come out myself, look at the attic, crawl space or walls, and explain what I see, sketched on the back of the estimate if that helps. The estimate tells you what we'd do, what has to be fixed first and the price, so the things that change the cost are on paper before you decide.
Crew preps, seals, then sprays
Our crew handles the prep and sealing first and the foam after, while your household is away on the plan we set together. I'm on site checking the work as it goes.
Walk through the finished job
Before we leave, I go over the finished work with you so you know what went where. You come home once the product's stay-out time has passed.
Why Yakima homeowners call C&D Yakima Insulation Solutions for spray foam
The owner sees every job
I come out myself to look at each job and write the estimate, whether you're in Yakima, Sunnyside or Ellensburg, and I'm on site checking the crew as it goes. You're talking with the person who made the plan, not passing questions through a salesperson.
A framing carpenter first
I framed houses for years before I started this business in 2017, so I know where air and water get around insulation and waste good work. That's why I'll tell you plainly when a job isn't ready for foam yet.
Licensed and insured, with a promise
We're licensed and insured. Satisfaction guaranteed on every job is our promise, and that matters when our crew is working in your house while you're away.

Spray foam and attic work around Yakima
Permits depend on the job. The City of Yakima takes building permit applications for new construction, and those plans include the state energy code worksheets, so if you're building, the insulation is part of that review. For foam going into a house that's already standing, I won't guess, and if your job needs a permit we take care of the application with the city or county office that covers your address, or tell you up front that we're checking and find out. State code puts Yakima in climate zone 5B, and the code's table for that zone calls for twice the R-value, the measure of how well insulation slows heat, in ceilings as under floors, which is why the attic gets most of the attention on new homes here.
On older houses we often find insulation up there that's been soaked or is full of droppings, and that comes out before anything new goes in. We see the same weak spots, the attic hatch, the gaps around can lights and the edges of the crawl space, on jobs in Selah and Terrace Heights as we do in Yakima.
Questions about spray foam insulation in Yakima
Is spray foam insulation safe for my family?
It can be, as long as nobody in your household is home while we spray or during the stay-out time after. EPA guidance, on pages it has since archived, says the vapors, fine mist and dust made during and after the work can cause asthma, lung damage, other breathing problems and skin and eye irritation. The risk doesn't end when the spraying does, so plan around the days after spray day too.
How long do we have to stay out of the house after spray foam?
For professional high-pressure foam, some makers recommend 24 hours before you move back in, though the time can vary by product. The same EPA guidance says nobody living there and no other trades should be in the building during the install, and that goes for kids and pets too. As I said above, we tell you which product we'll use and its maker's time before you book anywhere.
What is the best time of year to install spray foam in Yakima?
The best time is when the temperature and humidity suit the product, because both play a big part in how the foam cures. EPA guidance tells homeowners to get clear direction from their contractor and the foam maker on the right time of year for their area. Ask me at the estimate and I'll tell you what the product we plan to use calls for and how that lines up with the weather here.
How do I check a Washington insulation contractor before I hire one?
Look them up on the state's Verify a Contractor tool, which shows whether the business has an active contractor registration and a workers' comp account paid to date, along with any safety violations and lawsuits against its surety bond. Washington requires every construction contractor to register with the Department of Labor & Industries and to be bonded and insured, so a crew that doesn't show up there shouldn't be in your attic.
How much does spray foam insulation cost in Yakima?
There's no honest number for spray foam until I've seen the space, because the price turns on how much area gets foam, how hard it is to reach and what has to be fixed before it goes in. A wide-open attic with ducts up there is a very different job from a few rim joists in a tight crawl space. The estimate I write after the visit gives you the price for your house.
What causes fumes to build up in a house after spray foam?
Sealing a house cuts down how much outside air comes in, so fumes from the foam and from anything that burns fuel, like a gas furnace or water heater, can build up inside. EPA guidance points this out as part of its spray foam advice. If something in your house burns gas, bring it up at the estimate and I'll tell you what I see.
Insulation work that often fits better than foam
Attic insulation
If the ducts don't run through your attic, adding insulation on the attic floor is often the better fit, and that page explains how we handle it.
Blown-in insulation
When the attic already has some insulation and just runs thin, especially at the edges, a top-up of loose fill can bring it up to depth for less.
